When you hear the song for the first time listen to the rhythm and timings that are played with the guitar. After you have heard the songs one or two times you can start recognize the chords and strums. The next time you hear the song you have to follow it reading the guitar tab. The next step is to pick up your guitar and follow the song. Don’t play your guitar to loud because you want to concentrate on the song that is playing and get a better feel for the rhythm. Do this a few times until you get the right strumming and timing.
Now you can start playing the easy guitar songs by yourself. If you mess it up don’t worry, listen to the song a few more times and try again. It is not going to work on the fist time, mistakes are natural. Keep practicing the same song until you know how to play it, don’t switch from one song to another before you can play it. After you learn to play the easy guitar song you can start singing and playing at the same time.
You can use a digital camera and make a film of you playing and singing. You can watch yourself playing and pinpoint any mistakes you are making. Learning how to play guitar is not hard but you will have to practice a lot and have patience, you won’t be a Mark Knopfler in a month. If you are making mistakes and get frustrated don’t continue for too long, get distracted and come back. If you are getting irritated and nervous you will make even more mistakes and make the beginner guitar lessons an unpleasant thing.
